Ridgeway

June 2021

This mural is a celebration of Ridgeway and the community that surrounds it.

Starting with a collaborative worksheet, students were asked to explore the space surrounding the school. What patterns, colours, and sights could they see? Who do they share the space with? Who lives in the community and neighborhood?

The drawings inspired the ideas of pride, community, connection, history, inclusion and learning. With this artwork as inspiration, a final design was created.

The symbols included: the schools raven mascot, book shelves, foliage and flowers, energetic shapes, the ocean, mountains, and rainbows.

Cohorts of students also participated in painting the final artwork. Over 2 days, students from grade 5-7 filled in the design with their classmates. The energy, focus and fun that the students brought to their time on site was incredible.

The artwork brings a vibrant energy to the space surrounding Ridgeway and was created with so much love from the students involved. It was an honour to work with everyone at the City of North Vancouver and Ridgeway Elementary to bring the project to life.

A donation has been made by the artists to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and Orange Shirt Day in honour of Every Child Matters.

We acknowledge that live, work and create on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh and Tsleil-Waututh Nations
